The Google Blog posted yesterday an announcement that they have switched to personalized search results for users who are not signed into Google. These results are determined by the users behavior on a particular machine using cookies.

Let's look at the definition of SEARCH: to uncover or find by examination or exploration

How can one "explore" new information when the results will be based on what the user already knows? Full story...

Personalised results can be turned off easily though if you want to.

I don't believe the average Google user would be aware of this, however.

True.

But the average Google user are just looking for what they want, and it's them that the personalisation is aimed at. The people who do random searching will know how to "defeat" the filters.

I don't agree with this new feature. I liked it more before. I can say this from both a webmaster and an user point of view. Or maybe I am not used to it at the moment.

Normally people just visit search engines for a particular information and if some results arises with search engines they have nothing to do with it.
